NC State basketball recruiting: Who is Omer Yurtseven?

NC State's recruiting efforts should begin to intensify now that the team's season is over, and the coaching staff may be starting with Turkish seven-footer Omer Yurtseven, who is a projected lottery pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Yurtseven said in February that he's planning to attend college because he wants to get more playing time--whether or not he actually decides to pass on a pro contract in Europe remains to be seen.

He is a consensus five-star prospect, per 247Sports, and a top-20 recruit in the 2016 class. In other words, probably an instant impact player. His potential addition could make NC State's frontcourt formidable, especially if Abdul-Malik Abu continues to build on the way he finished out his sophomore season.

State has definitely been in contact with Yurtseven, but a talented kid like this--available late in the recruiting cycle--obviously is going to get a lot of attention. Arizona, Duke, UNC, and Kentucky are among the other schools that have been in contact.

He's planning to visit the schools that he's interested in, but he has to wait until the conclusion of his Turkish club team's season to begin that process. So it's unclear what sort of timetable we might be looking at here.
