Abdul-Malik Abu declares for NBA Draft, will not hire an agent

Sure, let's keep the alarming news coming, why don't we? Hours after NC State announced that Caleb and Cody Martin will transfer, the school confirmed that Abdul-Malik Abu is going to enter the NBA Draft. ESPN's Jeff Goodman was the first to report the news.

It only makes sense for Abu to get feedback from NBA scouts, and thanks to some rules changes by the NCAA, he's got more than two months to make up his mind, though he shouldn't need that much time. Players can now participate in the NBA Combine without losing their eligibility, and have until May 25 to remove their name from the draft.

Abu is not going to hire an agent, which obviously leaves the door open for a return to NC State if he doesn't like what he hears. Most likely, Abu will be back at NC State for his junior season. Most likely. He's not in Draft Express' mock draft, which is probably an accurate representation of where he stands.

But you never know, man, especially around these parts.

Spoke with Mark Gottfried about Abu's decision: "With the new rules, it’s something he wants to take advantage of."

More Gott on Abu: "He was also very clear, he thought he had nothing to lose."

Gottfried added, if Abu wasn't a first-round pick, he would be back for his junior season
