Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer cleared to practice, might be game-time decision

Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer broke his collarbone during the first half of the Hokies' season-opener against Ohio State, which was just about a month ago. Brewer has been out since, but the early target for his return was this week, and that may happen.

Per Virginia Tech, Brewer is clear to participate in practice this week, which is usually a pretty good sign about a guy's readiness. It doesn't mean the Hokies are certain to go with Brewer as the starter, but it does make "game-time decision" seem academic.

Since Brewer's injury, the Hokies have gone with junior Brenden Motley, who put three consecutive strong performances together before laying an egg against Pittsburgh this past Saturday. That effort could be a consideration when it comes down to choosin' time for Frank Beamer, but Brewer has been plenty volatile during his brief career as a starter.

Brewer threw 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2014 while averaging 6.1 yards per pass attempt.
