NC State swimming, wrestling ready for big seasons

If there are obvious wins for Debbie Yow as athletics director, they are in the swimming and wrestling programs, which have quickly emerged as contenders on the national level behind the leadership of coaches she hired in both sports.

The NC State men's swimming team won an ACC title last season for the first time in decades and finished eighth at the NCAAs. The women's swimming team just rolled a Southern Cal team that finished among the top 10 at the NCAAs last year. The Pack's quickly distinguished itself with a strong group of sprinters, but the team's depth was also showcased at the ACC championships last year.

The wrestling team finished among the top 20 at the NCAAs this past season, and should be very good once more with the return of top-ranked heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski, who already has multiple individual national titles to his credit. This gives us a good idea of how the Pack's grapplers are ranked heading into the season:

That's without mentioning the incredible 2016 recruiting class the wrestling program has inbound.

The best thing about this is these programs aren't going anywhere anytime soon. And one of them might just up and grab a national championship.
