Five-star 2016 point guard Dennis Smith Jr. commits to NC State

Dennis Smith Jr. is coming to NC State. Those are words that Wolfpack fans have been waiting and hoping to hear for a while now, and they're finally a reality. Smith is a consensus five-star prospect in the 2016 recruiting class, and one of the top 10 players in the nation.

NC State was considered the leader for Smith for a long time, so his verbal doesn't come as a surprise, in that regard. It is a surprise at least in the sense that the Pack has landed a top-10 player, which does not happen often. Or rather, hasn't happened often in the past--maybe Mark Gottfried and his staff are changing things with this addition.

Smith is listed at 6-2, 180 pounds by 247Sports, and had scholarship offers from Everywhere In The Nation University, because he is very, very good at basketball. He's also an AAU teammate and friend of big man Bam Adebayo, another five-star 2016 prospect that NC State is recruiting.

Smith is currently recovering from an ACL tear he sustained during an AAU event in early August. He is expected to make a full recovery, and should be ready to go well ahead of his freshman season in college, though unfortunately the injury did cost him his final high school season.
