NC State smacks reality into Old Dominion, 38-14

For the third consecutive game this season, NC State held the football for more than 40 minutes. But for the first time, the Wolfpack had a road challenge to overcome, and State left no doubt, setting the tone early with a lengthy touchdown drive. NC State prevailed 38-14 in a game that was never in any question.

Matt Dayes ran for 108 yards, Shadrach Thornton added 92 in his first game back from suspension, and Jacoby Brissett added another 43 yards. NC State controlled the line of scrimmage from the opening whistle, leaving no doubt about which was the better team.

NC State defused Old Dominion's crowd early with a lengthy scoring drive to start the night, and while the Wolfpack was thwarted on several drives that ended in field goal tries, it did not matter. The Wolfpack won this game at the point of attack, and did so almost right away.

Old Dominion managed only 148 yards of offense, behind a young quarterback who clearly was not ready for this type of challenge. Running back Ray Lawry had one huge play out of the backfield, but otherwise there was little to celebrate for the Monarchs.
