Dave Doeren didn't have much of an update on guard Alex Barr on Monday, except to say that Barr's injury wouldn't require surgery. Barr missed a significant portion of the Wolfpack's game against Eastern Kentucky after suffering the injury.
Here's what Doeren told media members:
"We'll have some different guys, that's why we cross-train. Tyler Jones has played left guard as well. Terronne Prescod is a guy that can play guard and center... Bryce Kennedy played a lot in the game. That was good for him to get those reps because he may be the starter there this weekend."
State's had some early misfortune with setbacks up front, and I guess there's two ways to look at it. Obviously it's not ideal to lose starters, but on the other hand it does create opportunities for guys who wouldn't play as much otherwise. And those opportunities, so far at least, have been in low-pressure situations. Maybe this will pay off later in the season.
Barr was still listed at the top of the depth chart State released for the ODU game, but I'm gonna go ahead and pencil Bryce Kennedy in there until further notice. Like Doeren said, we won't have a good idea about his status until they see how much he's able to do in practice.
Doeren was also hopeful that Garrett Bradbury would be healthy enough to contribute this weekend. That'd sure be nice, because at this point we're like one more injury at OL away from that whole situation becoming frightening.
