State's hitting the road for the first time in 2015.
NC State will hit the road this week as a multi-score favorite, which I'd imagine is somewhat rare for the Wolfpack. State opened in Vegas this week as a 15-point favorite to defeat Old Dominion. Since the line opened, it's only moved in NC State's direction, to the point where State is -18.5 at some sportsbooks, per Vegas Insider.
That's an encouraging trend, but even so it's difficult to shake the notion that Saturday night is going to be tough. Night game in front of a small but rowdy crowd, plus some history involved, since this will be the first time Old Dominion has hosted a power-five program.
That entire set of circumstances makes me uneasy, but there's a pretty good chance my concerns will prove unfounded. Old Dominion, which is breaking in a freshman at quarterback this season, hasn't shown near the same offensive explosiveness that it had in 2014. The Monarchs are 2-0 on the season, with wins against Eastern Michigan (38-24) and Norfolk State (24-10).
