NC State depth chart: Jarius Morehead or Dexter Wright to start for suspended safety Shawn Boone

hold onto your butts

For the first half of the Notre Dame game, NC State will have to live without starting strong safety Shawn Boone, who is serving a suspension for a targeting penalty against Wake Forest. Because the penalty occurred in the second half, he has to sit the first two quarters this weekend.

On NC State’s updated depth chart, the starter in his place is listed as either Jarius Morehead or Dexter Wright. There isn’t a lot of depth in State’s secondary, and that’s plain enough in this case: Morehead has played only 33 snaps at safety this season, while Wright has yet to appear in a game at safety.

Wright missed the first three weeks of the season because of injury, returning against Wake Forest to play on the special teams unit.

Let’s just hope these guys can hold down the fort without forcing NC State to have to get a little creative within the back five.

The timing on this is less than ideal, as Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer is an excellent passer—certainly a much bigger challenge than John Wolford.
