NC State gets commitment from 2018 WR/DB Nadir Thompson

NC State picked up a football commitment for its 2018 class on Friday. Yes, 2018. Nadir Thompson is a rising junior who plays for Southern Nash. NC State is recruiting him as an "athlete" which is to say the coaching staff isn't certain where they want to put him just yet. And that makes sense, given how he's just a sophomore in high school.

Anyway, get me some datgone red lights, coach!

Thompson is listed at 5'11 and 175 pounds by Scout. The major recruiting sites have not gotten around to ranking the kids in the 2018 class yet, so we'll just have to guess at a star rating. Obviously, it's still really early not only in Thompson's high school career, but the recruiting cycle as well.

At Southern Nash last season, Thompson played on both sides. He carried the ball 53 times for 394 yards and six scores, and he also had 40 tackles with a couple of picks as a defensive back. His primary recruiter has been cornerbacks coach George Barlow, which might indicate where State's leaning when it comes to Thompson's role in college. The kid, to his credit, doesn't seem to care where they line him up:

Right now, [NCSU is] recruiting me as an athlete. It doesn't matter to me where I play in college. I just want to do whatever is best for the team.

Thompson is also a track standout--he is very, very fast.

NC State has two commitments for 2018. Virginia athlete De'von Graves verbaled to NC State last month.
