Arizona State transfer forward Savon Goodman to visit NC State, per report

Savon Goodman, a graduate transfer from Arizona State, will take a visit to NC State at the end of April, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. Goodman averaged 9.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this past season, and if the name sounds familiar, it should: he dropped 21 and 16 on NC State back in November.

Goodman stands only 6'6, but that has not prevented him from scoring efficiently in the paint (56.1% on twos last year) and rebounding well at both ends. He is a fantastic defensive rebounder, which is just the sort of help NC State could use. He was a top-five defensive rebounder in the Pac-12 in each of the last two seasons, and he would have easily been the best Wolfpack player in that category last year.

He struggled at times with consistency, though, and he was often in foul trouble. He also made only 46% of his free throw attempts, which was a career low. (His career average is 52%.) And that hurts, too, because he's really good at getting to the line.

Goodman has also had his share of off-court problems. Last year he served a four-game suspension during the middle of the season for an unspecified violation of team rules. He began his college career at UNLV, where he was arrested and charged with burglary, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit burglary in 2013. (Two of which are felony charges.) The incident involved the theft of cash, shoes, and video games from an apartment near UNLV's campus.

As a result of that, UNLV suspended Goodman for his entire sophomore season, but Goodman didn't stick around to serve it. He left the program, and in the winter of 2013, plead guilty to reduced trespass and petty theft charges, avoiding jail in the process.

Since then he's managed to stay out of serious trouble, with the caveat that we don't know what led to his suspension at ASU.

So Goodman may be a bit of a risk for NC State, or anybody else for that matter, but there is also no question that he can help the Wolfpack this upcoming season.
