NC State football recruiting: 5-star DT Dexter Lawrence announcing college choice on Dec. 14

Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is not only the best high school player in North Carolina, he's also widely considered to be one of the two or three best prospects in the entire country. Lawrence plays at Wake Forest High School and he'll make his college choice at 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday, per the News and Observer.

NC State is very much in the mix with Lawrence, who is supposedly down to the Wolfpack or Clemson. Alabama, UNC, and Florida may still have a shot as well. That's a tough recruiting battle to win, but it doesn't hurt that Lawrence plays in the Pack's back yard. He's also on campus in Raleigh for an official visit this weekend, so the Pack gets to make one last big push right before his announcement.

Lawrence was in Clemson on Monday, per the N&O, and Nick Saban flew in to bid him season's greetings on Wednesday.

The kid is just insanely talented. At 335 pounds, he's running a 5.0 40-yard dash. Five flat! As a senior (and again, this is a defensive tackle), he had 91 tackles, including 21 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. Just look at the havoc he creates in the first game on this highlight reel. Dude blocks an extra point, forces a fumble and recovers it himself, and then blocks a freakin' punt.

Some of Dave Doeren's biggest recruiting successes at NC State have come up front, as he won the battles for Kentavius Street and Darian Roseboro, who both were four-star prospects (and in-state kids). But Lawrence would by far be the most significant recruiting win of his tenure. Fingers crossed.
