NC State football recruiting: 3-star DB Bryce Banks picks NC State

College football recruiting is often strange. For instance, there was a lot of noise on Thursday about wide receiver Kelvin Harmon, who was a South Carolina commit and then a supposed NC State commit, all before denying he'd decommitted from South Carolina and then making his decommitment from South Carolina official.  Despite whatever's going on there, the Pack managed to add to their numbers with a commitment from consensus three-star defensive back Bryce Banks.

Blessed and proud to say that I have committed to North Carolina State! #Wolfpack http://pic.twitter.com/YHBQhFz64f

Banks hails from Columbia, Missouri and was previously committed to his hometown Tigers. Banks selected the Wolfpack over Illinois, which he had just visited. As soon as Banks visited Raleigh a few weeks ago, NC State appeared to be the leader. A taller corner who could possibly transition to safety if need be, Banks fits the profile of the type of defensive back the staff has been after lately.

Banks said NC State plans to play him as a cornerback, nickel and some safety in some packages.

Banks will be enrolling early, which will give a boost to the depth in the secondary. This will help create more competition in the spring for what should be a relatively open competition for playing time. His ability to enroll early may have been a big reason the staff was attracted to him as a prospect. The coaching staff should be looking to take one more defensive back among Nick McCloud, Carlos Becker, and Henry Miller.
