Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey ruled out for NC State game

Syracuse's injury report this week includes starting quarterback Eric Dungey, who will miss his second consecutive game. With Dungey not an option, the Orange will go with Zack Mahoney, who has had his moments but is completing less than 50% of his pass attempts this season.

Dungey's absence could be a significant detriment to Syracuse's offense, which has relied on him to move the ball with his feet. Mahoney doesn't have poor rushing numbers himself, but when pressed into throwing situations, he's averaging a shade over four yards per pass attempt. With Dungey, Syracuse's offense could be much more balanced. With Mahoney, the Orange have to find a way to make the passing game functional.

The Orange will also be missing linebacker Parris Bennett and defensive back Corey Winfield, both of whom rank among the team's top 10 in tackles. Bennett is third on the team with 44 tackles. This whole deal is not the most ideal situation.
