1. Clemson (11-0, 8-0, won over Wake Forest 33-13)
Not surprisingly, Clemson dominated Wake Forest to get to 11-0. They outgained Wake 552-152 and coasted through the second half after building a 30-7 lead. This Tigers are a win in Columbia away from finishing the regular season undefeated, and that more than likely will not be a problem.
2. North Carolina (10-1, 7-0, won at Virginia Tech 30-27)
UNC survived (that pass was incomplete) a late comeback (that pass was incomplete) by the Hokies (that pass was incomplete) and held on (that pass was incomplete) to clinch the (that pass was incomplete) Coastal Division.
3. Florida State (9-2, 6-2, won over Chattanooga 52-13
Florida State played Chattanooga. They won by a lot of points. Next week they play Florida.
4. Pittsburgh (8-3, 6-1, won over Louisville 45-34)
Nathan Peterman tossed four touchdowns and Pitt got a huge win against a Louisville team that had a lot of momentum coming in. The Panthers can’t get to the ACC Championship anymore (that pass was incomplete), but they can get to 9-3 with a win next week against Miami.
5. Louisville (6-5, 5-3, lost at Pitt 34-45)
Louisville’s winning streak, which had reached four games, came to end Saturday at Heinz Field. The Cardinals trailed 42-17 just before halftime after a disastrous second quarter where they gave up 35 points. They rallied in the second half, but the deficit was too large. Louisville finishes the season at 5-3 in the ACC.
6. Miami (7-4, 4-3, won over GT 38-21)
Good Miami showed up this week. Brad Kaaya had a strong performance and the Canes had this one just about wrapped up by halftime. They travel up north to play Pitt next week, and a win should improve their bowl seeding.
7. Virginia Tech (5-6, 3-4, lost to UNC 27-30)
It’s hard to not feel sick for Virginia Tech given the circumstances. An epic comeback in their hall of fame coach’s final home game, just to end up losing like that? Regardless, it was still a great effort from the Hokies, resulting in only dropping one spot for the loss. They play for bowl eligibility next week against their arch-rivals.
8. NC State (7-4, 3-4, won over Syracuse 42-29)
The Pack’s offense did pretty much whatever it wanted on Saturday, racking up 511 yards. It was far from a mistake free game for State, and the score would likely have been worse if it wasn’t for some lapses late in both halves. Next week needs to be mistake free if NC State wants to get to 8-4.
9. Virginia (4-7, 3-3, won over Duke 42-34)
Duke is reeling, but this is still a good win for Virginia. The Cavaliers are 3-3 over the last six after a 1-4 start and are one of the most improved teams in the ACC from the beginning of the season. Is it too little too late for Mike London though?
10. Duke (6-5, 3-4, lost at Virginia 34-42)
Duke tried to battle back from multiple deficits of more than twenty points, but it was not enough. They have ridden straight off a cliff following that Miami debacle, and the UVA loss is now their fourth straight. Their regular season concludes at Wake Forest.
11. Syracuse (3-8, 1-6, lost at NC State 29-42)
What a nightmare season this has become for the Orange. Losing in Raleigh marked their eighth straight loss after a 3-0 start. They’ll now be looking for a new head coach too after next week. They’ll hope to avoid nine straight losses against Boston College.
12. Georgia Tech (3-8, 1-7, lost at Miami 21-38)
Is there a result that makes less sense this year than Georgia Tech beating Florida State? The Yellow Jackets could be well on their way to a 3-9 season after getting taken apart by Miami. This year could not be farther from what everybody was expecting for Georgia Tech.
13. Wake Forest (3-8, 1-6, lost at Clemson 13-33)
Wake remains 13th after the completely expected happened with Clemson. The offense was stagnant. The defense did force four turnovers though. Duke is next.
14. Boston College (3-8, 0-7, lost to Notre Dame 16-19)
The Eagles actually played pretty well against a top 10 caliber team in Notre Dame. The defense forced five turnovers, but the offense scored exactly zero points off of them. They did start to find the endzone in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t overcome the 16 point hole they were already in.
