The Vanderbilt Commodores: A statistical overview

Less than two weeks ‘til the Independence Bowl, folks!

I will have a proper preview of the Commodores up next week, but in the mean time, while we stumble through this unfortunate football-free period, we can still get to know them a bit better.

Vanderbilt bounced back from consecutive losing seasons to reach 6-6 in 2016, and the Commodores beat both Ole Miss and Tennessee by double-digits to close out the regular season. They might be playing their best football now, but they sure have had some clunkers: a 13-10 loss to South Carolina, a 13-7 loss to Florida, etc. Fortunately, if you are like me, you did not see any of those games. No one should have seen those games.

Vandy didn’t score more than 17 points in six of eight conference games before their late-season outbursts against the Rebels and Vols. On paper, the overnight turnaround offensively doesn’t make much sense, but then again, we are talking about college football.
