NC State smokes Appalachian State, 97-64, in Omer Yurtseven’s debut

How about that, a stress-free game for once.

When the walk-ons are on the floor in the final minute, you know your team has had a good night. After struggling in several non-conference games this season, NC State left no doubt this time, blowing out Appalachian State, 97-64.

The Wolfpack scored the first 10 points of the game, and the contest was over quickly as the Mountaineers buried themselves under a whole bunch of missed shots. Dennis Smith led NC State with 22 points, six assists, and three steals.

The story of the night, of course, was big man Omer Yurtseven, who made his Wolfpack debut after serving a nine-game suspension. Yurtseven showed some nerves in his first couple of minutes but quickly shook that off once he got his first bucket. He showcased the different ways in which State’s offense can run with him on the floor—the pick-and-roll looks like it will end up being pretty deadly once Yurtseven and DSJ find their timing.

Yurtseven knocked down a three-pointer in the game, and generally looked both quick and smooth. He finished the night with 12 points in 22 minutes. So far so good.

As for the Mountaineers, well, they were dead on arrival thanks to a putrid 24-76 shooting night, including 4-29 from three. State, on the other hand, shot well over 50% from the field and practically lived at the line, attempting 41 free throws. All of this led to an easy night for NC State, which was much appreciated. Let’s do more of this.
