Des Kitchings changes mind and will not leave NC State for Furman, per report

It appears the Pack will keep one of its top recruiters in the fold.

On Thursday it appeared that NC State running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Des Kitchings was set to become the next head coach at Furman, his alma mater. On Friday morning, Kitchings reversed course, according to SI’s Pete Thamel, and will remain with NC State. Furman had planned to introduce Kitchings as its new head coach today, according to SI.

It’s unknown what led to the change of heart—whether Kitchings decided he just wasn’t ready for that move just yet, or if perhaps NC State stepped up with a little more money—but no doubt this is good news for the Wolfpack.

Kitchings, who is a holdover from Tom O’Brien’s staff, has been one of the best recruiters for Dave Doeren, particularly in North Carolina. He has also developed some pretty good running backs during his time in Raleigh.

The other two finalists for the Furman job announced earlier this week were Air Force OL coach Clay Hendrix and Charleston Southern head coach Jamey Chadwell.
