NC State men’s swimming ranked No. 1 in Coaches’ Poll

Swim team update: still good.

A big win over No. 3 Texas last week has propelled the NC State men’s swimming team to No. 1 in the latest Coaches’ Poll. (The women, no slouch themselves, are No. 6.) The men are 3-0 this season with wins over the aforementioned Longhorns and No. 20 Wisconsin.

The victory over the Longhorns was a major benchmark for the program, as the Texas men have won each of the last two NCAA team championships. The Pack lost a tight one to Texas in Raleigh last year.

Olympic gold medalist Ryan Held put together a huge performance against Texas, winning both the 50 free and 100 free events. He also helped the Wolfpack to relay wins in the 200 medley and the 200 free. Dude’s a beast. (With a lot of talented teammates.)

There’s a long way to go yet, but if the performances so far are an indication, NC State will be a serious threat to win the national title.
