Maverick Rowan’s status for Paradise Jam unclear

Rowan took a shot above an eye in the season-opener.

NC State could be really shorthanded this weekend, depending on the health of Maverick Rowan, who took a serious shot above his right eye during the Pack’s season-opener. On Tuesday, head coach Mark Gottfried was ambivalent about Rowan’s status, but Rowan is at least expected to travel with the team to St. Thomas.

Gottfried’s remarks about Rowan on Tuesday, via The Wolfpacker:

“I think we are going to keep evaluating him,” Gottfried said. “We obviously won’t let him participate until he is 100 percent. He did not practice today. He is planning on taking the trip with us.”

Rowan did not play in NC State’s win against St. Francis on Sunday. What Gottfried is not saying explicitly here: Rowan hasn’t been medically cleared to play this week.

And if he can’t go, then the Wolfpack is going to have to play through the absence of two key players and do it with a guard-heavy rotation.
