Former NC State quarterback Erik Kramer talks about his suicide attempt and recovery

This is a tough story, but one that so far seems to have a happy ending. Erik Kramer tried to take his life last August; he’d suffered a string of personal setbacks and was severely depressed. He shot himself in the head and somehow managed to survive.

In this piece from Outside The Lines, Kramer recounts the suicide attempt and his subsequent recovery.

Kramer probably is best known in NC State football lore for his last-second heave to Danny Peebles to beat South Carolina in 1986. In two seasons at State, Kramer threw for 4,602 yards and 30 touchdowns. He went on to have a lengthy career in the NFL.
