NC State adds Cameron Gottfried, Tucker Thompson to basketball roster

I apologize for this digression from FOOTBALL GAME DAY WOOOOO but there is a basketball roster update worth a mention. NC State recently added a couple of walk-on transfers: guard Cameron Gottfried, who is one of Mark Gottfried’s sons, and forward Tucker Thompson, who is not one of Mark Gottfried’s sons.

Gottfried—a Broughton grad—returns to Raleigh after a couple seasons at Siena. Thompson was a freshman at Western Carolina in 2014-15 but took the next season off. Both of them have game experience, which is not something you can typically say about walk-on transfers.

Gott The Younger appeared in 22 games for Siena last season, though very sparingly. He attempted only seven total shots on the season and never played more than eight minutes in any single game.

Thompson, who is a 6-9 forward, got a lot of run for the Catamounts, though he was never a significant factor in the offense. In his time on the floor he was a good shot blocker and offensive rebounder.

So while these two kids aren’t likely to break into NC State’s rotation this season, they nonetheless come with pretty good credentials, and they’ll be a benefit in practice.
