NC State’s fall camp is starting, so remember the knees

It’s August, which means not only that training camps are getting underway across the country, but also that real football that counts is only one month away. We are officially football-adjacent, and what a feeling that is! NC State’s season-opener is a mere handful of Thursdays from now.

The Wolfpack has a few questions to answer on both sides of the ball over the next several weeks, as the coaches sort through position battles that may define the season. Of course, that matter pales in comparison to the most important part of this month; the ceremony of ceremonies; that which binds us all together: the annual gathering of prayers for the knees.

Yes, the players will be simulating football, and they all have knees that will be exposed to injury as they do football stuff, which is concerning. State already has lost one key player to a knee injury that occurred well in advance of camp.

Spend some extra time each day thinking about the knee, about how it is deeply vulnerable yet inimitably powerful. Knock on wood, dance a jig, avoid stepping on lines in the sidewalk during your evening jog. Can’t be too cautious this time of year. The team and its knees need you.
