Mike Glennon expected to sign 3-year, $45 million deal with Chicago Bears

Get that money!

Finally free from the clutches of his rookie contract with Tampa Bay, Mike Glennon is about to cash in. According to reports from a variety of sources, including ESPN, Glennon is expected to sign a three-year deal worth $45 million, with $19 million guaranteed.

That seems like a huge number for Glennon, who has barely played over the last two seasons, but since Chicago is only on the hook for $19 million, it really isn’t. NFL contracts are screwy that way. The Bears have a top-five pick in the 2017 Draft and may still take a quarterback, which could make Glennon more of a stopgap than anything else.

But at least he’s finally going to get his shot at a full-time gig in the league, and who knows, maybe he’ll play so well that he’ll win the job long term. It’s not like he’s had a poor career up to this point: 4,100 yards, 30 TD, 15 INT, 59.6 completion percentage. He just needs a little more help around him.
