2017 NFL Combine: Josh Jones impresses with 4.41 40-yard dash

Jones probably helped himself a bit with his Combine performance on Monday.

The NFL Combine is a high-pressure spot for every prospect involved, and Josh Jones had the added pressure of some pre-Combine buzz. He did not disappoint, distinguishing himself as one of the top safeties at the event in a number of workouts.

The most notable of those, of course, was his 4.41 in the 40, which was second among safeties. That is great speed, period, but especially so for a kid who checks in at 6’1, 220. That time was the second fastest among all safeties. He was also first in bench press reps (20), third in the vertical leap (37.5 inches), and second in the broad jump (11 feet).

At this point, it looks like Jones could be a second or third round pick, which would certainly justify his decision to turn pro a year early.

Jack Tocho also worked out at the Combine Monday, and while he didn’t show off the same wide-ranging athletic skills as Jones, he probably didn’t hurt himself with his performance. He clocked a 4.54 40 time, and he was second among corners with 21 reps on the bench press. His 35-inch vertical ain’t bad, either.

Matt Dayes also worked out at the Combine—the RBs’ day was Friday—and didn’t do too much worth mention. He chose not to run the 40, and I assume he’ll wait for the Pack’s pro day, where he may feel more comfortable.
