ECU wide receiver Trevon Brown ruled academically ineligible for entire 2016 season

Tough loss for the Pirates’ offense.

East Carolina got bad news Wednesday when the NCAA ruled that wide receiver Trevon Brown would be academically ineligible for the entire 2016 season. Brown missed the Pirates’ season-opener while this academics issue was still being sorted out.

While the Pirates still have some good skill players to rely on, Brown’s loss still hurts. He was second on the team in 2015 with four touchdown grabs and third in both receptions (41) and receiving yardage (496).

The Pirates are also missing veteran receiver Davon Grayson, who has been out with an injury. Grayson was the team’s fourth-leading receiver last year with 448 yards on 33 receptions. A timetable for his return is not known.

So that’s a bit less for NC State’s defense to worry about this weekend, which puts added pressure on ECU go-to guy Zay Jones. He was outstanding against Western Carolina, but safe to say his task is a bit tougher against the Pack.
