Former NC State target Mayan Kiir is back on the market

Kiir has asked for a release from his letter-of-intent to VCU.

Mayan Kiir is a 6’9, 220-pound forward from Florida who committed to VCU last fall over NC State, Illinois, and LSU. Kiir has opted not to play for VCU after the Rams made a coaching change, as Scout’s Evan Daniels reported Monday afternoon.

All four of those schools have brand new coaching staffs, as coincidence would have it, but Kiir obviously is familiar with LSU’s Will Wade, who landed him at VCU. Kiir visited all four of the above-mentioned schools prior to making a decision last fall, and they may all end up trying to get back involved.

Kiir is a consensus high-three/low-four star recruit.

NC State doesn’t necessarily have to press (pun ... possibly intended) for frontcourt depth in this cycle, assuming of course that no Wolfpack players opt to transfer out during the offseason. With Lennard Freeman returning, State should have four guys it can count on to some degree. (Or five if Darius Hicks takes a big step forward.)
