NC State picks up verbal from 2018 QB Devin Leary

Red light on!

Dave Doeren and company got some good news Thursday afternoon when class of 2018 quarterback Devin Leary announced his commitment to the Wolfpack. Leary is the first quarterback to join NC State’s 2018 recruiting class, and he announced his decision with a video he posted on Twitter.

Leary, who is listed at 6’2 and 185 pounds, had a prolific junior season for Timber Creek High School in New Jersey. He threw for nearly 3,700 yards and accounted for 48 passing touchdowns while throwing only four interceptions. He has two years of starter experience under his belt. He was the Gatorade Player of the Year for New Jersey in 2016.

The consensus three-star prospect has an impressive offer sheet that included Rutgers, Iowa, Maryland, Baylor, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse.

Here’s what he told 247Sports about his decision to pick NC State:

"I chose NC State because I really connected with their coaching staff when I went down their a couple weekends ago on a visit," Leary told 247Sports. "Coach (Eliah) Drinkwitz and Coach (Dave) Doeren really explained how much they want me in their program and how I fit into it. I believe that I fit perfectly into their offense and it just felt like a huge family there."

He’ll have the opportunity to come in and redshirt while learning under Ryan Finley, who will graduate after the 2018 season.
