Wolfpack Women would be No. 4 seed in NCAAs if season ended today

NC State has built a strong resume with several big wins in league play.

Takinga cue from the College Football Playoff, the NCAA women’s basketball tournament selection committee is releasing its top 16 teams each week leading up to Selection Sunday Monday.

The Wolfpack Women check in at No. 15 this week, which puts them on the four-seed line. They have defeated four other schools in the top 16—Louisville, Duke, Florida State, and Notre Dame—which is what has them in such great position to earn a high tournament seed with six regular season games remaining. I doubt there’s too many teams with two top-10 road wins.

Being a top-four seed in the women’s tournament means hosting games the first weekend, and according to various media reports, the NCAA’s current boycott of North Carolina over HB2 would not affect NC State’s (or Duke’s) ability to host. This is because the games would not be played at predetermined neutral sites.

State has a favorable schedule down the stretch, as five of its last six opponents are under .500 in the ACC.
