Same stuff, different day
NC State remained at rock bottom on Saturday after being thoroughly dismantled by an average Wake Forest squad. The game was effectively over after about ten minutes, when the Deacs had already opened up a double-digit lead.
The Pack trailed 44-24 at the half, which is embarrassing. The offense was inept, but I suppose that is still better than the defense that has not existed for months. Things didn’t get any better in the second half. I didn’t really pay attention during the final 20, but I noticed how Wake continued to score more points than State did. The final tally for Wake Forest was 88, which is significantly more than NC State’s 58.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way, but this is the way that it is. This season has been over for some time and the Pack is just going through the motions as it works its way to the merciful finish line. There is nothing left in this team and it is going lose out. The problems this team has have only compounded as the year has gone on and now here we are losing to Wake Forest by 30. It cannot get lower than this.
Talent doesn’t win games when you have elementary school coaching and this season is an indictment of that. This team is so bad at basic basketball things that it would be hilarious if it wasn’t depressing. We’ve reached a point where the fans do not care anymore and the only thing more dangerous than upset fans is apathetic fans. Gottfried is over. He has cooked his goose. Whether or not he loses his job at the end of this season does not change this. Nobody cares to support him anymore and nobody wants to play for him. It is over.
The Pack is back in action at home on Wednesday when it will lose by a lot to Chapel Hill.
