Thomas Allen remains ‘100% committed’ to NC State

Despite the tumult of Monday night, NC State’s lone hoops commit remains, er, committed.

Whenever there’s turmoil within a college program, attention eventually turns to recruiting. Coaching changes often take some sort of toll on recruiting, and it’s common to see kids either back out of a verbal or get out of their letter-of-intent.

NC State only has one signee for 2017 so far: that’s Garner product Thomas Allen, who is playing his senior season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Amid all the chaos of Monday evening, Allen re-affirmed his commitment to NC State.

Allen committed to Mark Gottfried in October and signed during the fall. At the time, he was also looking at Ohio State, Xavier, St. Louis, and Nebraska, among many others. Since he has signed a letter of intent, NC State would have to rip that up—and pretty much every school does this, if asked—before he could look elsewhere.

It’s encouraging to see that he appears willing to stick with State regardless of what the next several weeks entail. He’s a good player, and the type of player that Gottfried’s staff should have been recruiting from day one.
