Malik Newman may take visits to NC State and Kansas, according to report

Former five-star recruit Malik Newman withdrew from the NBA Draft recently, but he isn't going back to Mississippi State. Newman opted to transfer after being unhappy with his role in Ben Howland's offense. With a talented player like Newman suddenly available, of course plenty of high-major programs are going to be interested. Kansas and NC State are two of them.

CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported on Wednesday that Newman was already planning visits to KU and NCSU.  Both schools had heavy interest in Newman out of high school, and since we're talkin' about some very recent history, there's a lot of familiarity between those parties.

However, Newman's father told Adam Zagoria Wednesday afternoon that no visits had be scheduled yet.

Which doesn't mean the visits won't happen, of course. It's still early in the process. Newman also could potentially explore other options, like, say, go to junior college where he could play immediately.
