NC State hires Boise State's Eli Drinkwitz as new offensive coordinator

NC State has a new offensive coordinator a little over a week after handing Matt Canada his walking papers. On Monday the school announced the hiring of Eli Drinkwitz, who spent the 2015 season as the offensive coordinator at Boise State. Drinkwitz had been an assistant with the Broncos for two years, though this past season was his first calling plays.

While his track record as a coach is not extensive, he has excellent pedigree, as he has worked for both Gus Malzahn and Bryan Harsin. He was a graduate assistant on the Auburn team that went undefeated and won the national title in 2010, and has been with Harsin since 2013, when Harsin got the head coaching gig at Arkansas State.

Harsin was a long-time coordinator at Boise State, groomed by Chris Petersen before later replacing him--Boise was 61-5 during his tenure as OC there. So, yeah, Drinkwitz has spent a lot of time around good offensive minds in his brief coaching career.

In 2015, the Broncos averaged more than 39 points per game. They had a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher, and a 1,000-yard receiver.

You never know how things are going to work out, but on the surface, this looks like an excellent hire.
