Two star South Carolina players accused of assault in alleged incident at a bar

Could be bad news for the Gamecocks, and it could have an impact on the season-opener against NC State.

Details are light at this point and no charges have been filed, but two South Carolina football players have been accused of simple misdemeanor assault stemming from an alleged incident at a bar early Saturday morning.

The two players in question are wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Skai Moore. Samuel was South Carolina’s leading receiver in 2016, finishing the season with 783 yards on 59 receptions. Moore missed last season because of injury but led the Gamecocks in tackles the three seasons prior. Both players are expected to be crucial to the 2017 South Carolina team.

Head coach Will Muschamp said Samuel told him he wasn’t at the bar at the time of the alleged incident, and this is still an investigation in its preliminary stages.

This has potentially significant implications on the season-opener between NC State and South Carolina if Samuel and Moore end up in legal trouble, but again, that remains to be seen.
