recruiting is gross
If you want to know how brutally cold college football recruiting can be, there are plenty of examples in any given year, and here is another one: Larrell Muchison, who committed to UGA last Thursday, was told the night before signing day that he no longer had a spot in Georgia’s recruiting class.
They straight up told this dude he couldn’t come to Georgia probably while he was in the middle of dinner. He had a signing day event set for 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
When reached, a Louisburg College team source indicated the scholarship offer had been pulled at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
“High and dry,” was the term the source used to describe the situation.
Unfortunately this is how recruiting works at the highest levels in football, and it’s become so normal to mess with teenagers’ lives like this, no one cares. But that’s a rant for another day.
So this twist for Murchison ultimately led him to sign with NC State late on Wednesday, and Georgia’s loss is NC State’s gain. Murchison is a highly nicknameable three-star defensive lineman and the top junior college player from North Carolina.
To his credit, Murchison was diplomatic about how things unraveled with UGA. Via Brandon Sudge at the Macon Telegraph, here’s how he explained his late involvement with NC State:
“I was told, ‘Look, you don’t need to go through what you’ve been going through,’ and I was convinced to stay in-state. (Head coach Dave) Doeren explained a lot of things to me and I said ‘Man, why not?’ An offer from a school that’s moving up, why not? I know these defensive line coaches are some of the best in the nation, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
