Cat Barber scores 8 points in summer league debut with Pelicans

Cat Barber got his feet wet in a reserve role for the New Orleans Pelicans against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. The Pelicans dropped the game, 85-65.

After checking in late in the first quarter, he made his first two attempts from the field, including a very familiar-looking layup in transition.

Barber finished with eight points on 3-10 shooting, two assists, and two rebounds. His performance was a mixed bag, as you might guess by that shooting line. He was deferential early but started to hunt his shot as he got more comfortable in the second half, but the jumper was not falling for him.

Could have been worse, though--teammate Buddy Hield finished 5-20 from the field.

And the other point guards on the roster didn't do a whole lot to distinguish themselves, so hopefully Barber will get more run in the next two games. (He got 19 minutes on Friday.)

Trevor Lacey, who is on the Lakers squad, did not play. I'm sure he's getting a decent chunk of change for this Vegas League cameo, though, so that's not the worst thing in the world.
