NC State lands commitment from 3-star DT Grant Gibson

NC State has done well for itself in the Charlotte area since Dave Doeren was hired. That trend of success continued on Tuesday when Mallard Creek High School defensive tackle Grant Gibson announced his commitment to play for the Wolfpack.

Gibson is a high three-star prospect and the most well regarded player among NC State's four 2017 commitments. Rivals considers him a four-star player and one of top 10 prospects in North Carolina. He is listed at 6'1 and 305 pounds, and has an impressive list of offers that includes Louisville, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Georgia Tech.

Gibson's addition would make this the fourth straight recruiting cycle in which a Mallard Creek kid signed with NC State. The other three: Thaddeus Moss, Vernon Grier, Jaylen Samuels. The Pack has also nabbed Jack Tocho, Jalan McClendon, Tony Adams, and Bo Hines from the Charlotte area.

NC State's new #MadeInMarch uniforms revive the cummerbund look

Leave it to adidas to deliver what no one asked for. The wildly unpopular cummerbund uniforms worn by adidas schools are back, in slightly tweaked forms! NC State has been, er, blessed with the version of the uniform that most closely matches last year's.

I don't mind the tops, but those shorts are just never gonna work for me.

There's some claw marks around the waist, apparently, but I can't  tell where based on the above photos.

UPDATE: The claw mark runs on the left side of the shorts. Better than the pure cummerbund look from last year.

The bottom of the shorts are a bit different this year, and the off-coloring at the shoulders is also a tweak. The Wolfpack will wear these during the ACC tournament. Here's what the other adidas schools will be donning for the postseason:

I don't hate all of these--the KU, UCLA, and Indiana versions will probably look fine in the flesh. The rest, though, I dunno. Miami's are pretty rough, but we knew that already. And I don't know what crime Nebraska committed to have that random zig-zag pattern forced on it.

Breaking news: Bush appointee rules in favor of GOP

The arguments of Liberals are simply not credible:

“The court finds that parental views on student-assignment policies (including any change to the socio-economic diversity policy) cannot fairly be characterized as ‘progressive’ or ‘conservative,’” Dever writes. Another argument made by plaintiffs is that the changes didn’t have the support of Wake County voters.

“Although the court acknowledges the sincerity of those who oppose the 2015 Wake County Commissioners Plan, the court rejects plaintiffs’ argument that the 2015 Wake County Board Commissioners Plan ignores the ‘will’ of the voters,” Dever writes. “The voters elected the General Assembly, and a majority of the General Assembly voted in favor of the 2015 Wake County Commissioners Plan.”

Really? Voters from all across the state represent the "will" of Wake County's voting population? This "judge" was confirmed so fast back in 2005 if you blinked you would have missed it, but we have 83 empty seats for Federal judge positions now, because undermining a black President is more important to Congressional Republicans than keeping the wheels of justice moving. Or maybe it's even simpler than that, making sure boneheads like Dever are the ones ruling on issues of voter disenfranchisement.

NC State football is back! Spring practice begins March 1 for the Wolfpack

NC State will begin its annual spring cameo beginning on Tuesday, when spring practice begins. The Wolfpack has a number of off-season questions to address, and the most high-profile among them, of course, is who will replace Jacoby Brissett at quarterback?

But there are plenty more--the athletics department did a nice job highlighting some major storylines with this spring spotlight.

Here are some notes, in bullet form:

-- Reggie Gallaspy and Matt Dayes will be "limited" this spring; both are coming off of significant injuries. Dayes missed the latter third of the season after suffering a foot injury against Clemson that required surgery. Per the N&O's Joe Giglio, Dayes has recovered, but State is understandably being careful. Gallaspy suffered an injury against UNC that I don't think has ever been specified.

-- Tony Adams is moving to center.

-- Johnathan Alston and Vernon Grier have been moved to corner.

-- Will Richardson is serving a semester-long suspension related to his DUI arrest, and thus will not participate in spring drills. If you were confused about this like I was (he served a one-game suspension last fall and I thought that was the end of it), I don't blame you. This is actually a school system policy in effect, entirely independent of whatever the football program deems justice.
